5-year-old boy with no prior skin problems developed within a 3-month period asymptomatic bumps in the poplitea areas.
Initially treated as herpes simplex with no respons to oral acyclovir.
Clinic examination shows multiple small (2 to 3 mm) flesh-colored, smooth-surfaced papules and lesions with central ulcerations.
Associated induration, redness and central purulent material has developed.

Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a localized cutaneous poxvirus infection.
The classic lesions of molluscum are easy to recognize and most MC lesions resolve spontaneously. However, associated inflammation may mask the primary lesion as shown in this case.
Treatment with curettage, cryotherapy, cantharidin and imiquimod might be useful options for the primary lesions - and in cases with inflammation use of topical steroids combined with antiinfectivae might be necessary
